Shift Thermal now brings that technology to data centers, where cooling and compute draw on the same power.
Founded by two Cornell PhDs
The founders started Shift Thermal in 2017 and moved to Tennessee for the inaugural cohort of Innovation Crossroads, the DOE-backed entrepreneurship program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Shift Thermal developed the technology with support from the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, NYSERDA, and private investor funding.
From buildings to data centers
Over more than eight years, Shift Thermal developed and proved FLEX in commercial and industrial cooling, where it runs in the field today. That work now extends into data centers, freeing up power for more compute.
The people building it
Shift Thermal is led by founders Levon Atoyan and Mitchell Ishmael, alongside a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians with deep expertise in thermal fluids and energy storage.
